A quick project to make any table setting golden!
I spent most of the last few weeks working on my Mamaw’s 80th birthday party. It was a lot of fun, but it was also a lot of work! I’ve been working on it for a few months but when that few months included Thanksgiving and Christmas, the time got away from me. She would have been happy with just a cake, so I wanted to make it extra special for her. We have a huge family, so I had lots of help with the food. It took me forever to decide on the decorations, but I found an example on Pinterest of a cake that I loved. I was luck that the bakery close to my house is excellent. I have only had cookies from there before, but I have heard good things. The cake turned out beautiful.
I decided to go with the gold, pink, and black for all the party decorations. It was kind of a Kate Spade inspired theme. I think it turned out well. I was pleased with the flower arrangements. I gave some of them to my grandmother after the party and I repurposed one for my office. I love flowers but they mess with my allergies, and it’s January. There are not a huge selection of fresh flowers. I picked these up at Michael’s. They have some flowers at Michael’s that feel like real flowers, but they are about $10 a stem. The bunch of flowers that I got was about $7 for the whole bunch. These were easy to make and I already had these mason jars from a previous project.
I just spray painted them with gold paint. It took a couple of coats to cover the jar. The paint isn’t perfect, but you couldn’t tell once the flowers were arranged.
I cut the flowers off of the stem and used three stems for each jar. I put a green floral foam ball in the bottom of the jar and put the stems in the ball. I cut some of the leaves off and just placed them around the top. Some were stuck in the foam, but I had to glue some of them to the bottom of the flowers with hot glue.
These worked great for the party, and now they look great on my desk at work!
