Mar 28 IT'S TIME TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW AND MAYBE HAVE A LITTLE FUN!

This blog post was supposed to go up a few weeks ago. I was on spring break from work, and I got busy, and it didn’t happen. I think I’ve said it a few times already but I’m not good with consistency, and that is something that I hope to become better at through this blog. I created the blog to work on aspects of myself that need help! Well, anyway here it is…. better late than never, right!?

This week is Spring Break for me! Excuse me while I jump up and down! Anyway, I really don’t think I could be more excited! Don’t get me wrong, I love my job! When it gets to be a certain time of the year it can be a lot for the staff, the students, and the parents, really everyone involved. Sometimes you really need a mental health break! The Spring is a great time to relax whether you have a break or not. The weather here is getting nice. Well it was yesterday anyway. It’s rained a lot here lately. I know you’re not really supposed to complain about rain but it has gotten to be a bit much. This weekend felt like a great time to just relax and spend a little time with friends. Last night some friends and I did a painting class at a local paint studio. I have never been much of an artist. I love crafts but most of my stuff is just putting things together. I’m not sure I have much creative flare. I have always been interested in drawing and painting but have never had much opportunity to learn the skills. This class was a blast though. It was a blast! Krissy the instructor was great! She was also the instructor for the only other class I have done. Krissy just made the whole experience fun. She made everyone feel welcome and capable.

If you have read any of my other posts, you know my focus is accepting yourself for where you are. I don’t really like the phrase accepting yourself for who you are because I feel like we are always changing. There may be something about yourself that you don’t like. There may be something you wish you were better at or something you want to accomplish. I feel like we need to not be so hard on ourselves. That’s the main thing. If you want to be different or learn something different that’s great. You just have to put in the work. You may never be perfect but you should at least try and try hard. I feel like that’s what you should learn in a class like this. Especially, if it’s your first time. If you follow the directions you will have produced a product that gave you joy to complete. I’m not the best artist but I had a great time. I think everyone else did too. I loved looking at all the other class members’ paintings. All the paintings were modeled on the same painting. The instructor gave the same directions to every member of the class. The paintings however were all different. I think this is a true representation of art. Art is about expression. Everybody’s art is not going to be the same because people are different. They have different skills and different perspectives. The point is to have fun! I have done this with a group of friends both times and it was great fun. These aren’t serious art classes. They are a little like paint by number but if you want to take a few different classes like this I think you could learn some great techniques to try some works of art on your own. There are also much more serious painting classes available just about everywhere. You just have to look around. I’m sure you can find a teacher. The local craft store usually has a list of classes available to learn things such as sewing or wreath making. They offer cake decorating classes or you can find lessons in just about everything on YouTube. If you want to learn a new skill just go out and find somewhere to learn it but most of all have fun!
