Hi.

Welcome to my blog! I share how I keep my sanity and have fun trying new craft projects!  I hope you find a little inspiration to get creative.

How to make a Christmas Garland with your leftovers!

How to make a Christmas Garland with your leftovers!

I typically always start a new craft project when I have a little extra time.  Usually, in the summer I have several going at one time.  My newest project was a combination of boredom and my mother being just as obsessed with buying yarn as I am with buying just about every other material you can use for crafts.  I spent the week of Thanksgiving at my parents' house.   My mother is using her leftover yarn to make a cool afghan! While I was there, I was randomly watching an Instagram where they were making little pompoms out of yarn.   This was when I had the idea to make a Christmas tree garland out of these pompoms.  It's not a particularly difficult task.   All you need to make this is a variety of different colors of yarn and some scissors.

I tried to make a video to show you the process of making the garland  I started this blog for a lot of reasons, but one of the main ones is that I think people should always be trying to learn something new.  I spent a lot of years in college.  I finished that a few years ago.  It is time I learned a new skill.  You don't have to be taking classes to learn something new!  I'm always practicing new crafts of trying new things in crafting.   Learning how to set up a website, take photos, and videos are big tasks to learn to do well.  I thought the photographs and video would be the most difficult part because people always think it's easy just to take a photo.  I found that there is a lot that goes into setting up a website.  Squarespace is relatively easy to set up because of all of the tutorials and information that they provide, but I am a bit of a perfectionist.  Nothing on here is going to be perfect because perfection is usually unattainable.  However, I have always struggled with a need for perfection.  If it won't be perfect, I would rather not do it.  I have missed out on lots of opportunities in life because I was scared to try.  I do sometimes sell my crafts but when I do I always very nervous they won't be good enough.  I want other people to realize that nothing has to be perfect to be creative or interesting.  There are lots of things that are made more interesting by their imperfections.  When you are looking at handmade things, the cool parts are often the little imperfections.  Machines make perfect things, but crafts made by hand are made with love and care. I am going to try to go through the step by step instructions and then I will include the video.  I hope you like the it and I hope you try this project!  I'll show you what it looks like on the tree soon.  Well, if I can manage to get my Christmas decorations out of the attic!

Take your leftover yarn and wrap it around your fingers or a piece of cardboard at least 50 times.

Once you have wrapped the yarn around your fingers pull the yarn off and wrap around the middle, cut the yarn and secure it in the middle.

Once you have secured the middle use your scissors to cut the loops on both sides.

Fluff up the pom pom.

Use the scissors to trim any pieces that look to long or stick out.

Now, it's time to make the garland!  I made a bunch of these pompoms in different colors.  You need to have one long piece of yarn to attach them to.  Just make a look in the yarn.  Put it around the pom pom and pull tight.

Continue this process of making pompoms and attaching them to you yarn until you have a garland that will fit your tree.  I am using a white Christmas tree that has been in my attic a few years.  I used it a few years ago but I was inspired by this little garland to get it out again!

I included the video of the whole process so you can see it continually.  Remember, I'm still learning!  Photos and Videos are much harder than they seem!

If you don't have leftover yarn.  Here are a few things on Amazon you might find useful for making this project!
