Why being tacky is not always a bad thing?
Typically, nobody would want their clothes to be called tacky! But, sometimes it can be a lot of fun! DO you get into the whole tacky Christmas sweater thing? Whoever started having these tacky Christmas sweater parties certainly helped the companies that make tacky Christmas sweaters. I remember people wearing Christmas sweaters when I was a kid, but I don’t think they thought they were tacky. Did you wear Christmas sweaters? Do you have a party planned this year? A few years ago, I was at the Canton Flea Market in Canton, TX during Thanksgiving. If you’ve never been to the Canton Flea Market, you should go! It happens every month and should experience it. There was a booth set up selling nothing but Christmas sweaters. This lady had hundreds of them. I think they were like $5 or $10. She had all kinds. I’m not sure where she found all of them, but she must have been to every thrift store in the country to have all of those in one place. Last year my co-worker told me my sweater I bought wasn’t tacky. Which is good I guess, but I don’t think I would wear it on a normal day. If you want to see how tacky it is, search Robert Pattinson Christmas sweater in google. That’s not a real picture, but it is funny! I somehow managed to buy that same sweater from this lady at a flea market. What do you think, is it tacky?
I usually wear a Christmas sweater everyday on the last week of school before Christmas. They are pretty normal. Snowflakes and Santa on a t-shirt kind of stuff nothing too out there! We have tacky Christmas sweater day at school this year. I’m not sure if the students or the teachers are more excited about it. High Schools get into dress-up days too. I bought a new sweater during the summer on clearance. You have to prepare early! Plus, I do love a sale! I have been looking for some Christmas jewelry to go with it, but most of the things I found were a little too expensive. I was in Target earlier in the week looking at the Christmas decorations, and I found a pack of replacement Christmas light bulbs for $1.29. These light bulbs sparked a memory about some earrings I had when I was a kid; these earrings were made from Christmas light bulbs. I got a few packs of bulbs at Target and went across the street to Michael’s and got some post earrings and some earring backs. Make sure you use your 50% off coupon when you go to Michael’s! There is usually always one available in their app. They also offer a 15% teacher discount if you didn’t already know. These ended up being super easy to make. I included the directions here. I gave the extras to my co-workers. They were super cheap to make. I think I was all in at around $12.00 for eight pairs.
You will need a pack of replacement light bulbs. I found these at Target. A pack of flat post earrings. I liked the silver but they have gold ones too. Just use whatever you like best. I also like the plastic earring backs best but you might rather have the metal ones. You also need your glue gun.
Put a small dot of hot glue on the metal part of the light bulb. Press the earring post into the glue and let it dry.
Press the earring post into the glue and let it dry. Put the backs on and that's really all there is to it! You can make yourself and everyone else you know a pair. You could also paint something Christmasy on them. I am not all that good with the painting but it is on my list of things to work on. They are the perfect addition to your tacky Christmas sweater!
